year of pig

Today chinese people around the world are celebrating Chinese New Year as we enter the Year of Pig. Me and most of my friend were born on 1983, it means we were born under the pig sign, so I can say that this is our year.

Some people hate pig for the greed, dirtiness and their appereance as an actual animal. But I always love pigs as in the cartoon characters. They're pink and cute!! Besides, they're always related to piggy bank. You know, anything related to money is always cute. (Ever heard this kinda statement from somebody? You know the person.. Nyahahahaha... TONG!!)

But apart from what people think and what I think, this is what the chinese zodiac says about pig :

Pigs are self-reliant, very sociable, dependable, and extremely determined. Pigs are peace lovers and don't hold grudges. They hate arguments, tense situations, and try to bring both sides together. In life they make deep and long-lasting friendships. Pigs enjoy social gatherings of all kinds, and look for parties to attend. In fact, Pigs must watch themselves so that their incessant pursuit of pleasure doesn't interfere with other aspects of their lives. Pigs belong to clubs and they make terrific fund raisers. They have a real knack for charity and social work. Pigs always listen to problems. They won't mind getting involved and try to help. Pigs have big hearts. A problem that Pigs have is that they are too innocent and naive. Being honest and trustworthy themselves, they have a hard time understanding the motives of those with less scruples.

Pigs do not dazzle or shimmer. They possess the old-fashioned chivalry that grows on you until you totally depend on it. It is so easy to trust Pigs. They have a calm expression and a sincere manner. They are blessed with endurance and work steadily at tasks with great patience until completion.

Once Pigs arrive at a decision nothing stops them. Of course, before they reach that decision they weigh all the pros and cons. They definitely want to avoid complications. Sometimes they ponder so long they miss the opportunity altogether. But never mind, Pigs always believe in miracles, and miracles always happen to them. Fortune favors Pigs. They always find someone to help them without having to beg.

In romance, if not careful, Pigs may be taken advantage of. Pigs trust everyone and believe everything they hear. They are unselfish and enjoy helping their friends. Although they are gullible, they are actually quite intelligent and know how to take care of their own. If you hurt their feelings, Pigs often carry the pain for years. They have a hard time saying no to those of concern. Often they wish they had said no.

Pigs will always be looking for ways to work off all their extra energy. They work and play hard. Even if they lose everything, Pigs manage to bounce back. Their life path supply them with all they need. The Chinese believe Pigs own the Horn of Plenty.

To summarize the text above, I can say that we (who were born under the pig sign) are :
dependable, determined, very sociable, generous, helpful, big hearted, peace lovers, good listeners, sincere, patient. We are also cheap (say yes to almost everybody), club hoppers/party animals, and -the most important- so lucky to get all the miracles happen to us.

Celebrate The Year of Pig! Gong Xi Fa Cai!

together forever

A day before Valentine's day, my friend, Gillian showed me this picture. I was busy doing something at that time, I told her that I would read the news about it later that day, but then I forgot. Earlier this afternoon I just remembered about the picture. I searched, found it and read the article about this interesting picture.

The article said that the skeletons are found in Rome. The pair were buried between 5,000 and 6,000 years ago in the late Neolithic period. The burial was unearthed on the outskirts of Mantua during a construction work. The site is 25 miles south of Verona, the city where Shakespeare set the story of "Romeo and Juliet".

The archeologist will do some test to verify their sex and search for signs of illness or other possible causes of death. After undergoing labtest, the couple are to be displayed at Mantua's Archaeological Museum.

Eventough it could be impossible to determine the exact nature of their relationship and how they died, there is little doubt that their pose was born of a deep love. They were found in such a touching pose. It's really interesting how a couple could spend their life in love with each other until the day they died.

That's what I called together forever, literally...

happy valentine's day...

What's so good about valentine's day? Not having a boyfriend.

I don't have to walk around the mall trying to find the perfect gift for my boyfriend. More over, I don't need to spend some money (sometimes, lots of 'em) to buy cards, flowers, chocolate, or other gifts. I can get something great for myself instead. Something that I've always wanted for so long.

What's so bad about valentine's day? Not having a boyfriend.

Because the thing that I've always wanted for so long is having someone that I really love and loves me back.

HAVE A WONDERFUL VALENTINE'S DAY, EVERYONE!!

pointless

Hey, I’m doing nothing at the office since for the last 3 days nobody came to the club due to the post-flood days. Maybe they’re now working really hard fighting that filthy and stinky mud that has been sticking on their house’s floors for days.

Since there’s nothing important to do this afternoon, I just spent the whole afternoon checking out some gorgeous shoes on zappos, footcandy, and solestruck. I don’t know why I have this passion and severe obsession for shoes. I love great shoes so much that I save pictures of those irresistible shoes. Lots of ‘em!! Am I normal? I guess I am coz I know someone who does the same thing. This obsession of mine is now bringing me to a dream of becoming a footwear designer, actually.

Few weeks ago I thought I’d love to take shoe-making classes so I browsed for short courses and found some interesting ones in UK. But the minute I saw the tuition fee, I chose to close the web and quit browsing. It’s 2055 pound sterling for a 25 days course FOR GOD’S SAKE!!

Just writing about it could really piss me off…

Well, that’s not the real topic. When I was busy saving pictures of shoes, I found this web on Lissa’s link. It’s called “I want one of those. Stuffs you don’t need but you really, really want”. It’s full with fun stuffs. Here's what I found :

Isn't it interesting? A pack of "nothing" could be the perfect gift for your friend.. Hahaha!! But ironicaly, you have to buy "nothing" for 3.45 poundsterling. Maybe it would be better if you just use some unused plastic bag, blow some air (don't forget some saliva) into it, and give it to your friend as a gift. It'd be a lot cheaper then.. Hihihi..

I know I'm being pointlessly silly but I can't help it guys...

Okay, maybe I'll just post the shoes...

A very pretty pair of purple shoes... *drewling*

Still have one more hour to browse for more pretty shoes, gotta have to focus my mind...

if you still remember me...

OMG!! It’s been centuries and centuries since my last post! I’ve been through thousands of things in the last 3 months. Well, actually almost 4 months. So many great times and bad ones too, that I really don’t know where to start. I guess I’ll just have to start blogging all over again.

Here’s the story, from A to Z…

November 2006 : I was so busy with my final project at school. Working really hard on it was the only way that could help me graduate in time and release me from the long and (sometimes) boring hours of evening classes I’ve been taking the whole 2006. So I have to sweat my butt off, working at the club at day and doing the project at night. We supposed to spend the whole semester working on our projects. But with all the delays, and for one and too many reasons we started on November. And unfortunately for us, it was due early January 2007. It means we only had less than 3 months to finish the project.

December 2006 : It was the busiest month of 2006 for me. We were facing “the payment month” at the club, the month when all of our club members have to pay their membership fee and their other bills. And you know those nagging and bad attitude from the members didn’t do us any good at all. As we all know, December is the month of Christmas. Lots of things to prepare too for the Christmas day at the church. I did some dance choreography and performed on the D day. And since it was December, I was one step closer to the deadline while I almost had no time to work on the project. And FYI, I broke up with Adit just a day before the New Year’s Eve. If it’s not terrible enough, I had to cancel all the plans I’ve made for the New Year’s Eve party with my friends. I ended up having BBQ dinner with my family. It was okay though.

January 2007 : The month of my project's deadline. Though I wasn’t ready to submit the project (in fact I think I would never be ready to submit it), on the 10th I went to Karawaci to submit my final paper. Meanwhile, the disaster at the club wasn’t over yet. On 29th Simon drove me to perform my final presentation and unfortunately I only got B for the whole project. It’s not satisfying actually, but looking back at the effort I had been given on it, I really deserved the grade. If you think these school thing was over, you’re wrong! I still have to make some major and minor changes to my final paper before the final submission, due 16th February. But at least I graduated and got the Bachelor degree. From now on you can call me
Ms. Joan Stephanie, SST. (SST=Sarjana Sains Terapan / Bachelor of Applied Science)

February 2007 : I lost exactly a week of my time before the final submission. YES! The flood!! This year’s flood was really terrible. The water reached more than 60 cm inside of my house. The electricity went out. I should post the pictures and show you guys the mess. We spent two whole days to clean all the mud and bad odors left.

Earlier today, I heared a voice said : "Start writing again or forever hold your peace…". I decided to write.

p.s. I really can’t wait spending fantastic times with my friends…  So please guys... TAKE ME OUT!!!
